I am currently in my third pregnancy and I am a little confused, I forgot when my last period was and my ob can’t give me an accurate date. I was under so much stress the last 3 months I don’t even remember I had to have conceived in the last 3 months. Do you think that the ultrasound is good to pin pointing the correct size of the baby and give me a close date? I am a little skeptical about the ultrasound because for my last pregnancy the ultrasound said my baby was smaller then the calculations of my last period predicted so I got a Dec.10 due date and baby was born Nov.18 so it was a month off.

If you really can't remember, an ultrasound is probably the best way to go.
I had to have one with this pregnancy to determine a due date because I keep all dates on my cell and it got stolen before I found out I was pregnant (but after my last period).
Unusually though, I had a scan at 14 weeks, they told me my due date was 1st march, 2007. Then I had a scan at 20 weeks and I was told the baby was due on 5th March, 2007. Apparantly, the lter you leave it, the less likely chance it will be close to the due date. Also, if you have a naturally small fetus, they assume it is younger than it really is.
Honestly, except for magically remembering the last date of your period, the only chance is an ultrasound to get an approximate date.
Best of luck.

Your best bet at the moment is the ultrasound as you have no other way of getting even a close due date.Even when they give you a due date just remember to your self what happened last time and mark in the calender 3 dates One month before the due date, and 10 days after the due date cause if you don't go by the last date they will induce you and at least you will be prepared for that or you may get a surprise in the month before.Good luck and best wishes for you and your family.

Ultrasounds are very accurate in the first trimester. After ten weeks however babies begin growing at their own rate so the ultrasound dates can be off by several weeks after this point. However, if you cannot remember your lmp, this is the only way to accurately date a pregnancy, especially since it is your third. Uterus size could be a clue, but since you have had previous pregnancies, your uterus will stretch more readily, therefore the size will not be an accurate way to date the pregnancy.

at the beginning of the pregnancy the u/s is very accurate at predicting the due date and estimating the conception date or lmp. this is bcos in the 1st trimester the baby is developing all the organs, and most babies tend to follow the average development at this time.

it's only in the second and third trimesters when the baby is growing in size that growth rates vary. and of course the due dates may keep changing then if the baby is growing faster or slower than average.

at this stage the u/s is ur best bet to determine due date and when ur last lmp could have been. keep this "original" due date in mind in the later stages of the preg when the due dates can vary.

Haha, I had the same problem. My husband and I were trying for 6 months to concieve and finally the last 2 months I decided to not keep track of anything including when my period was. Sure enough we got pregnant and that was the first thing any doctor asked me. I felt like a moron for saying "I am not really sure". He caculated my due date through an early ultra sound though. So no, its not a problem, it just give them a better idea of everything. Most doctors give a due date ultra sound. Mine was on my first visit. Goodluck and congrats!

It sounds like the ultrasound is the only clue in on a due date. It's OK my husband reminded me of my last cycle when I got preg. with my daughter. Ultrasounds are not accurate but it is all you got right now.

ultrasounds are WAY more accurate early on in a pregnancy. :)
