Hello, If you like to drive, take I-90 west and go to Western South Dakota, you said you like to view things. Spend 3-4 days in and around rapid City, MT Rushmore, Custer State Park, needles highway, Many caves, Badlands. You may run into wildlife like herds of Buffalo. Also There are bear Country and reptile gardens if you like animals. It can get above 100 F in summer.

I've been both places. I'd say go west for the experience. There aren't many trees out there. Las Vegas is great. The barmaids wear very skimpy outfits! The beer and slot machines are great. Los Angeles is great as long as you stay on the north side of LA (Burbank, Beverly Hills, UCLA, Hollywood > goth/seedy/still alright, Santa Monica). UCLA is beautiful; it's really something to see. Santa Monica Beach has a boardwalk that goes on past Venice Beach. That's really something to see. All the Mexicans are a neat change of pace. Tijuana is cool. On the return trip, Chinatown in San Francisco is about ten blocks big and really nice. Interstate 80 is level but it slices right through tall mountain ranges. It's really something to see. A hundred miles north of San Francisco are the redwood forests. The Avenue of the Redwoods parallels Hwy 101 up that way. It's beautiful. Yosemite isn't too far from SF. Lake Tahoe is near Reno. It's really desolate for thousands of miles except for Salt Lake City and Denver. Just small towns along the way and a lot of open rangeland. That part can get boring; just keep pushing until California.

Going in the summer? I would go East. The temperatures are likely to be more bearable than going through the Southwest. Upstate New York is beautiful during the summer; lots of rolling hills, green farmlands, and blue skies. The weather is ideal for going to county fairs, craft shows, balloon ralleys, or the races. There are plenty of states parks and conservation areas if you're interested in wildlife. There are also a lot of historical sites and small towns where life moves at a more relaxed pace. People are generally friendly and welcoming to strangers. You'll find great food at little out of the way diners and coffee shops, sometimes attached to handicrafts stores.
