Ok, I am trying to cope from a very painful breakup and I start liking this guy. No, I dont tell anyone, and suddenly today he asks me who I like, after typing a whole bunch of "ums" on IM he says its ok if its me! And he insists that I tell him! And YES, I do! I tell him that its him I like, but I am a little confused about my ex and him. Well, we are great friends, he told one of my friends that its not gonna work out between us...the only reason I wasn't telling was because I didn't want to wreck our friendship...so will things between us ever be the same? Will we still be friends like before? Should I ask him out? Or leave it at that?

If I followed your slightly confusing stpry- You like Guy A who is freinds with EX B and though you two do like each other he thinks it wont work out.
My guess is he is talking about the mighty man rules- you don't date a freinds ex without his blessing and OK. If said friend is emtional hurting from the breakup then yeah he has to stay away for now.
I'd let things stay status quo for now- you like him and he likes you but now is not a good time. Talk again tell him you do like him but because of the ex issue you think you'd be better off staying friends until you both feel comfortable dating and are sure the ex who is his freind wont be hurt by the relationship. Good luck and these rules apply to women as well so ladies respect your GF's ex's as off limits unless you have the guts to ask he permission and enough time for her to be 'over it' has passed.
