Ah! I've had this urinary tract infection for 1 month now and it won't go away. I'm on my third antibiotic, nitrofurantoin. I don't think it's working 'cuz I'm still using the bathroom atleast 10-15 times a day and I'm on my 3rd day of medication. The first was Bactrim and the second was Cipro. None of them worked. My doctor had my urine tested and it is a bladder infection, no doubt about it. Isn't there something else I can do instead of hoping that the next medicine I try MIGHT work!?

I had my first tract infection like a few months back... the doctor said that if your infection does not go away within a month or so, than you have a serious bladder infection. Whatever caused this infection, it was obviously caught at a very dangerous period where it infected your bladder and may move up to your kidneys:

"Complicated Infections
Curing infections that stem from a urinary obstruction or other systemic disorders depends on finding and correcting the underlying problem, sometimes with surgery. If the root cause goes untreated, this group of patients is at risk of kidney damage. Also, such infections tend to arise from a wider range of bacteria, and sometimes from more than one type of bacteria at a time."

I hope I helped.... get your bladder and your kidneys checked out... last thing you wanna do is be stuck drinking pounds of water for the rest of your life all because you have one kidney do to a really bad urinary tract infection. On top of that... I know that running to the bathroom 50 times a day gets annoying, you go to the restroom and like 10 minutes later your back in there and you recall being in the less than 10 minutes ago. If you need to talk just PM me I am a former medical student at FSU in Florida.

Have you had your urine cultured again? The original urinalysis and urine culture would have given your Dr. not only the organism that is causing your infection, but also which antibiotics it is resistant to and which is it susceptible to. Is it possible that the infection cleared up and you are becoming reinfected? If so, then you would need to search for a possible cause of the infection. Whether it is a recurrent urinary tract infection, or one that is apparently resistent to antibiotics; after 1 month, and 3 antibiotics, you should consider asking for a referral to a urologist. They specialize in conditions relating to kidneys, bladder, etc. and would be better able to evaluate your condition.

Sometimes if you have had the urinary tract infection for a while and sometimes this happens by the time you start having blood in your urine, it is extremely difficult to clear up. I had one for 3 weeks, and the last antibiotic I was put on, the doctor told me that if it did not clear up, I would be hospitalized for it. So it may take 3 weeks for it to go away, with having to take 3 different antibiotics to clear it up.

Cranberry juice is PROVEN to contain enzymes that prevent the bacteria from holding on to the lining of your urinary tract. Drink LOTS of cranberry juice and lots and lots of water. The more water you drink, the less painful and irritating the urination will be because you will actually have something in your bladder to let go of.

Hang in there. I feel your pain.

Cranberry juice. It works wonders. Also make sure you are cleaning yourself correctly (front to back) when you use the bathroom.
