There are many things about teaching I LOVE! I love working with students who are self-motivated and want to learn. I love those moments when a student writes something on a test or report that has depth and insight beyond what I would have expected or even beyond my own. I love seeing people finding the tools they need to accomplish things I cannot even dream of in their lives. I love seeing students learn so much and accomplish a great deal in a short amount of time, growing beyond their expectations. I love seeing students who think they have no skill in an area develop confidence in themselves and belief that they can succeed. I enjoy interacting with students, tutoring them and debating various parts of my coursework. I like most of them as people and would love the opportunity to know many better.

There are a couple things I really hate hearing from students, and they boil down to human respect. I get very angry when students make scenes over my rules. If you don't like my classrom rules, discuss it in a civil manner with me in private; do not start showing how smart and independent you are in class and disrupting everyone's ability to learn. I teach laboratories, and there are rules in the lab designed to maintain a safe working environment. I very much dislike it when students deliberately and blatantly violate these rules, then object to having them enforced because they have a 'right to do things my own way'. Their way endangers themselves and others, and I can't tolerate that.

I get annoyed when students expect me to do their thinking for them. If you haven't bothered to read the assignment, don't ask me to explain the assignment to you or to do your homework problems. I am frustrated when students expect teachers to have long assignments for 40+ students back in two days and complain loudly if that demand isn't met. I don't like it when I give instructions and people ask four times or more for those same instructions because they weren't paying attention. I see these things as disrespectful to me and to their classmates.

1. Lack of self-motivation to complete any class/homework.
2. Foul language...as in every OTHER word spoken in class.
3. Threatening non-verbal language
4. Finding out that the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" during
PTA Meetings.

I hate indifference and a general dislike for life. A lack of effort is also something I loathe. And blond kids. Not really that last one. :)

my personal peeve from my students is apathy. those that are failing, know they're failing, and don't care that they're failing. if students don't at least show an interest and put out some effort i don't bother with them at all.
