about 98%, but that translates to something like 2-3 milion base pairs in difference.
What is most striking is that we have more in common genetically with chimpanzees than with the larger apes (that one would think would be our closest ancestors).

the two sets of chromosomes are about 99% the same. most of the differences are in the codons that control when genes are expressed in utero, and when they turn on and off. viva la difference.
