I mean, if someone can't get married, why should they be denied sexual release? Why save sex for all the pretty people who can find someone to marry them?

The idea of abstinence until marriage was designed to prevent unwed pregnancy in a time when there was no contraception. It like many other things that people beat their bibles about is a tribal law that made a lot of sense at the time. If anyone gives you flack about it just remind them of some of the other things that the bible says.

1) Stone to death disobedient children
2) Never eat pork
3) Kill anyone who works on the Sabbath day
4) If you curse at your parents you are to be killed (Leviticus20:9)

If your accusers actually follow all of the laws mentioned in Leviticus then they might be able to tell you about following the bible word for word.

It makes no sense in this time and society. The whole reason it was thought of was because in a time of no birth control, it's a bad thing to screw lots of people and end up with a gaggle of fatherless babies. It's really practical advice that just says to think of the kids you'll inevitably create. But now we have birth control so that problem is solved as long as people learn to use it.
Also, we get married so late in life now. Our society is no longer one in which a woman had to get married at 17 or even 15 so she could survive. In a time when women didn't work they had to have a husband so they could eat. We don't need that anymore. Marriage isn't nearly as much of a necessity as it used to be and there is nothing wrong with accepting that fact. I've been a Christian all my life and to all the Jesus freaks who say sex before marriage is horrible, the whole point is that as long as nobody is getting emotionally or physically hurt and everybody is a consenting adult, who cares? God has more important things to pay attention to that who people are screwing.
Once we get over this our society will improve dramatically.

i think its totally acceptable to have sex before marriage. after all its about getting to know each other before getting serious about it for life. you'll never know if your spouse can really make you happy in bed and if he cant or she cant, then thats where the problem plays a major role in the relationship causing cheats and lies. I've seen a few with this problem. Thats why I believe a partner should get to know each other truely before moving on to a step of commitment. I'm a Buddhist. Its not important to know if he had sex before or not. Or even with who or how many. Let alone his past. I wouldn't wanna share mine either. Whats important is now and the future.

Why can't YOU get married? Who is denying YOU 'sexual release'? Who says 'all the pretty people can find someone to marry them"?

I married (my first husband) 20 years ago; I was a 23 year old virgin and grossly overweight. He has since married my maid of honor. After our divorce, I lost 130 pounds. I remarried (husband #2) five years after, only to find myself divorced within six months. 6 years ago I met husband #3, we married in January - separated in March - divorced in May 2001.

What's wrong with me? I am 4'11" 100 lbs, long brown hair, large brown eyes, ageless complextion, knockout figure, wicked cook and remarkable personality.

The "no sex before marriage" is a personal choice. No one forces you to believe that. Why would you assume that because someone was less attractive that they would not be able to marry?

No. No sex before marriage protects the sanctity of marriage. It protects the holiness of marital sex. It protects the husband and wife from unwanted diseases.
People nowadays see sex as a sport. I guess that is what happens when you treat sex as only a physical release. It is so much more than that in the confines of marriage.

Yes, and old fashioned. Back in the day girls were married off at age 13. What kind of action were they going to get. I think in today's society that doesn't really fly - however all those STD's about are the price.

Yes, it is, but it's an idea as you said, not a law that they have to follow. People make the choice to have sex or abstain, so the "unfair" aspect is lost a bit.

I agree with SStubs30...marriage is supposed to be sacred and consecrated by God. It's in the Bible for those of us who still believe in God. This country was supposed to have been founded on the word of God but apparently all that disappeared with the American dream.
Marriage is not just for "pretty people" its for those who are blessed to have found a mate and those who take it lightly like those in Hollywood...kind of a hobby.

I think it is- I wouldn't want to get married, THEN find out my newly-married husband and supposedly life-long partner has a dong the size of a gerbil's, or the sexual prowess of a sea slug.
