If you drink coffee or alcohol right after breastfeeding you can have a drink immediatly, and not have to dump it if you don't BF for 2 hours. This is for one drink only though.

I would get a second opinion, if the dr was that slack to let you know 6 mths ago I wouldn't go back. If she's been having breast milk for 6 mths and as you say she's ahead on milestones and weight I'd keep giving breast milk until you get a second opinion to confirm either way. I don't really believe in sueing I think it happens too often but I would certainly write a letter to whoever is in charge and prehaps get some tv current affairs show to do a story there may be other people who aren't as lucky with a healthy baby, people do need to know and that won't necessarily happen by sueing them.

I never drank coffee when I was breastfeeding. But if you have 2 alcoholic drinks or less in a 24 hour period, you needn't discard your milk. I waited about two hours, pumped out my booze milk, marked it "sleepytime" milk, and put it in the freezer for those difficult nights. The lactation consultants at the hospital actually recommended this. If you are having more than 2 alcoholic beverages in a 24 hour period, don't. Wait until you are done nursing to do any serious boozing.
For whoever is giving me "thumbs down"...call your local hospital, ask for the lactation consultant...ask them. They will tell you the same thing. For the record, I drank 2 or less alcoholic beverages (per night) a total of about 5 different evenings in the 2 1/2 years I breastfed my daughter, avoided caffeine, and any OTC or prescription medication altogether.

It's completely fine to have some coffee and/or alcohol while breastfeeding. If you go overboard, however, you should "pump & dump" for up to 4 hours. It takes alcohol up to 3 hours to peak in your system.

I'm not sure how soon you should do so,but I do know that as long as it was a minimal amount of coffee or alcohol, you needn't worry because it would be such a small amount that it wouldn't pass on to the baby.

There is no need to dump your milk, caffeine and alcohol leave your breastmilk at the same time they clear your blood whether you dump or not.
You can consume both in moderation and it is considered safe for your baby.

Why would you drink that when you're breast feeding? Traces of caffiene and alcohol show up for a while. If I were you I'd set down the beer and coffee and focus on healthy drinks such as water and juice.

Personally I would avoid alchohol altogether....why take the chance??? Afetr all we are talking about your baby! A very precious treasure I would take the utmost precautions b/c it is proven to be dangerous. With regular caffeine though...coffee, tea, soda....I would not worry about that as long as you are drinking plenty of water to keep hydrated. I drink caffeine with all mine...mother of 3, 4th on the way. They are all perfecetly healthy and never sick. They go right to sleep whether they have had caffeine or not....
