Whats your views on engines? 454 is what I like. I know a man who has a covett engine in a older chevy truck real nice.

I had a 78 Chevy Caprice Classic Sport Coupe that was the best car I ever owned. I would try to find a good solid Caprice, one with a police package if possible, and upgrade to a sbc 383 (450 HP) instead of a 454. I would also install a 700 transmission and a 3.08 positrac differential. This should give you at least 20 MPG @ 65-70 MPH on the highway if you keep your foot out of it, and great acceleration from 0 to 120 when you want to play.(Top speed should be around 140-150) For exhaust, I would use the Flow Master system with a minimum of 2&3/4 inch pipes and some good "Hugger" Headers. Any good exaust shop should be able to build the system to include the headers. Get on the web and research crate engines from GM, Mr Goodwrench Performance. They are new, have a really good nation wide warrenty and come in several different configurations. Be sure to have the suspension updated with heavy duty neopreme bushings, police package springs and shocks and semi-matallic brakes. You should be able to do this project for $15K if you don't go crazy on paint. Black with good rims and tires plus tinted windows and a good stereo would be "Bitchin". Good Luck Dude...

You dont even need to spend 15k on a old chevy. You can get a get a decent old skool with a strong 400 small block for a bout 5-6 stacks. Those Chevy engines are some of the best engines made and will run for ever if well taken care of. I own a 73 Caprice Classic with a 400 small block w/flow master dual exhaust system and just sold a 74 Chevelle with a 350, love em to death. I own a Acura & Honda but would role the old skool over the new ones any day!!

Maybe an option to going out and dropping that kind of cash based mainly on the exhaust sound would be to spend half that money on a car to get you to work every day and the other half on a project car.Malibu, '80's Monte Carlo or a Camaro that has a V-8. Put some bolt on go fast goodies to it and have some fun.
What is "old school" to you?
If your idea of a blasting loud exhaust is great-ride in a car with someone for a couple hours on a road trip that has one. Ask what their system is and make your decision from there.
Dyno max and Flowmaster both make excellent systems at an excellent price!

If you plan on reselling the car leater you are going to want something that is a 2-dorr. I have always been partial to the Chevelles. U can find them fairly inexpensive in good condition and teh parts are everywhere for them I have a 68 Malibu and bought it for 1500$.. 1200$ for interior + 4000$ on brakes engine and suspension upgrades.. so for about 7K$ invested i always get offers of 10-12K from people that say what am awesoem car i have. I would say spend about 4-5K on the car as long as it has a str8 body.. get a crate engine.. interior done etc and u will have a kick *** car that u made to your preferance. cant besat that as far as im concerned and plus u can take pride that u brought that baby back from the grave. Im satisfied each time i go in the garage.. with 15K U will have one heck of a muscale cacr and it wont be just the pipes that make it loud.. thats called power baby!!

If you want something nobody else has ,get a '58 Impala. Convertible is best (rarest) ,but the two door sport coupe is like no other car. Think... '55 to '57 and '59/'60s but the '58 was really unique. With some luck you can get three duece manifold, nothing old school impresses people like multiple carbs. I had a '64 Buick Riviera with two four barrel carbs on a 425 cu in engine. I've never run out of gas so many times. But it sure looked cool under the hood.

Old School Chevy

There are some classic muscle cars....NOVA, Camaro, Corvette (too much!) Olds 442...Pontiac GTO, Firebird...Those are the main ones that will sell.

The Caprice is not one of them, even though they had a real SWEET Chevy 400 Small Block...NOW that would be nice with Nitro and a Blower....but too much of a Family Car and too heavy for street muscle....It'd be better as a Hooptie...get some hydraulics and some spinners...really sweet paint...custom interior...THEN take that 400 and put some muscle into it if you want.....But I'd two-tone it like Chip Foose

I know....I owned one.

Ooops almost forgot...WHY??? Who you trying to impress, Guys or Gals? Fast doesn't impress Women...But that Sweet Back Seat....Man that Gi-Normous Back Seat.....Get that Sub to move it! (Hell, just mount a vibrating massager on it, no need to go deaf)

Well good question, but not a chevy fan. However, huge old school fan. Look at it this way go to ebay and search for muscle cars or early 70's chevys...... If you can find something for $15k buy it if not look at the prices. Old cars are an investment, better than any 401k. Restore something with a family member drive it on the weekends or be like me. BUY IT, DRIVE IT, SELL IT FOR MORE THAN YOU PAID FOR IT. Cars were built for one purpose..... TO DRIVE.... MAINTAIN and DRIVE some more. If you play your cards right you could build that $15k into 30 even 75 or more...

I personally would go with a 1955 to 1957 chevy 2 door hard top it dosent get any better than that and for 15 grand you can get a pretty nice ride as far as exhaust I would put flowmasters on it they have a nice sound to them

Without a doubt I would find a 69 camaro.I would use about 5-6,000 on the body and the rest on restoration.I had a 69 z28 once that I did most of the work to myself.Giving it up had to be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
