Good question. The answer is to try to embarrass the current president, otherwise it would make no sense. If you are cutting & running, you do not need more soldiers.
I am confused how your question is suppose to tell what the average Republicans intelligence is. For the record, I am Republican & my IQ is 169. It has been for 51 yrs.
Volunteer Army can not be unfair to minorities or poor as it is voluntary. Is the plan to stop the poor from working for Army?
Only the Democrats could get away with that - Republicans would be called bigots for same reasoning. We have a required registration but a draft would mean actual serving.

History has shown that when there is a draft in use it outrages the American people and that puts pressure on the deciders to end the war sooner then a long house to house occupation like we have. I don`t think more troops will help we barely have supplies for the troops we now have. I don`t think the dollar can take much more of this crap.

I think Senator John Kerry has repeatedly since his '72 hearings before Congress explained this. He believes that we are taking advantage of the poor, minorities and undereducated, and mentally challenged by having a voluntary military. Later he put that in the form of the joke, which backfired on him. So folks like Kerry want a draft, because they want fairness. There also are scare tactics involved in scaring voters into thinking that they are going to get drafted.

The draft won't be for national defense. Their goal is to disrupt as many lives as possible.

A draft ...or at least registration of males(and females hopefully...someday) eligible to serve would ENHANCE national defense.
