The answer is simple. Give heavy fines to those employers who violate our law by hiring illegal workers. If there were no jobs, there would be no illegals. This is not done because it does not serve the corporations who profit from this and the destruction of our lower and middle classes. Illegals are slaves who will work for less and without benefits, something corporations make huge profits from. Follow the money. You might ask why our laws are not enforced, but rather we are led to debate an army and Berlin type wall on the border?

I'd examine the issue in depth and make a comprehensive plan that addresses the many complex and sometimes contradictory interests. Some issues to consider: There are jobs that Americans won't do at the wages offered and might not even do with double wages. Construction jobs are being taken by undocumented workers because crossing the border has become so costly- coyotes double their fees as we tighten the border. Families in Mexico are being torn apart by the long absences of fathers and husbands. These facts make me think that we should consider facilitating enterprise offices in Mexico funded by US agriculture that hire, bond, transport, insure and return farm workers to their families in Mexico after seasonal work.

What we are doing does not work and in fact seems counter productive. We need thoughtful humane approaches that address the needs of many. Yet the angry reactionary voice seems to be the only voice we hear in a complex situation that is a problem as old as the settlement of the South West by the United States.

1) enforce the laws
2) fund the border fence
3) phase out Bush's "guest worker" program
4) quit trading with commies even if Bush does like blue dresses, or at the very least put tariffs in place that give our companies a fighting chance.
5) sieze all assets of any businesses caught hiring illegals after a pre-warned date, and sell them to support immigration policy
6) replace all the horrible jobs with chain gangs who's wages will get paid to boost law enforcement. use some of the better ones for summer jobs for college students, as well as work rehabilitation for people who need that sort of thing.

I live in So. TX and I see first hand what real problems this causes. 1st it's not an illegal immigrant problem. it's an employer not afraid to hire an illegal immigrant problem. Everybody came here for one reason...MONEY! If you fine or jail employers who hire illegals that will cut down on the work available for them, when you do that, the desire to come here illegally will drop also. If you have to be documented to work, you will get documented. It's that easy!

first-cut the benefits to illegal immigrants and deport what we can. Second-criminalize the hiring of illegal immigrants. the wall isnt a horrible idea later. i would also create another branch of the military called Border Control that would stop illegal immigration and crack down on drugs, much like the Coast Gaurd except on land. This would actually be cheaper than doing what we r doing now.

Oh wow that is a complex thing to deal with eh
I would go after the companies that hire them. The illegals that have been here for years and years and have assimilated into our culture and are otherwise law abiding citizens I would let stay.
The rest of them, go back and re apply properly to get in.
I wouldnt build a fence but maybe some kind of satelite tracking that is automated on the border with heat sensors, so that when someone crosses it a patrol can be sent to get the person and send them back, that way you dont waste money having people patrol the border.

Three Options:

1. Jail them all. Build the biggest jail/prison.
2. Send them back home and spend billions of dollars for the airfare.
3. Penalize them by paying 2000 dollars each and process their papers if eligible to work and can find work. If not, send back home.
