For the last 4 months there has been no mucas around the time of ovalation, even though the maybebaby indicates ovalation. I have bought those kits taht test with urine and no surge has been indicated around the time the maybebaby has indicated ovalation. I am 38. Has anyone got any sugestions - and dont say I am too old because my mother and her sisters have had children in their late 40's.

Hi,

It is generally not recommended that OPK's or MaybeBaby tests are used in iscolation from your other fertility signs.

The best way to see if you have ovulated is to take your temperature every morning when you wake up. It will rise slightly when you ovulate and will stay higher until your next period. Once you ovulate (around the middle of your cycle) the egg remains viable for fertilisation for just 12-24 hours!

It is easy to correct your scant mucus. Simply drink more water and slightly increase your vitamin A intake (eating a couple of carrots will do it!). You mucus will become stretchy like egg white as you approach ovulation Sperm can surive for up to 5 days in this most fertile mucus.

To increase your chances of conception you should have intercourse every other day for a week before you ovulate and then for two days after.

You can chart your cycles on line with fertilityfriend.com. If you are married, a charity called LIFE UK has a fertility awareness programme which is open to you. I took a Natural Family Planning course with the Couple to Couple League. It was excellent and I recommend it highly.

You may also want to get hold of a copy of Fertility, Cycles and Nurition by Marilyn Shannon (available from www.ccli.org/store). It is full of useful advice.

Finally, are you taking pre natal vitamins? You want to give your baby the best possible strart in life! Also try not to worry. Stress can delay ovulation!

You are not too old, although what happened to your mum and her sisters is not necessarily an indication of how your body works because unfortunately we live in a different world now and things like xenoestrogens that are found in packaging are messing with lots of peoples fertility.
Have sex regularly! Good luck!

Ask your Dr for FSH or Oestrogen test, you may have run out of eggs, family history isn't everything. If your FSH is high there are some ways to bring it down so go see a Dr and get some tests done.

Typically count the 14th day after the first day of your period as your fertile time. I have not ever concerned myself with the mucus. For me, each month is not the same. As long as you're ovulating, you are not too old to have a baby. :) I'm 38 too.

Have you talked to you Gyn doctor about this? Also, something to might consider is have you been on Birth control and if so for how long? Prolonged use of any birth control can subside your ability to become pregnant as well.
