Ok I know sometimes generalization are made or certain traits stick out like a sore tumb in some people, but come on. My biggest pet peeve is the whole emo/goth/punk thing; what are the differences and similarities? And why just becasue some one where's black do they have to fit in one of those categories? I would also like to set the recored straight that just because a person self-harms (cuts) this does not make them a emo/goth person; it just means they self harm.

Stereotyping allows people to hate so more easily. You will not hate others if you see them as real people. Think about it.

So true. I love listening to goth-metal music. But that doesn't make me a goth. Hell, I'm far from it. (in fact when people realize my tastes in music they are quite surprised, apparently I don't "seem like" the type of person who would listen to it.)
Just because somebody does one thing that doesn't fit them into any type of stereotype.

There is something in our society that makes us more comfortable when we categorize and lable people.

By the same token, we tend to become uncomfortable when a person doesn't act according to the lable that we thrust upon them.

Don't be disheartened by society.
Be who you are, dress how you like, and associate with whoever makes you feel good about yourself.

Society will ALWAYS have something to say about something.

Everyone gets steryotyped, muslims blow up people. All Mexicans cut people up with knives.and sell drugs to black people. All black people are rappers.
People with dark hair and wear it straight are goth.
All Japanese are gardeners. White people are racist pigs.
Politicians are liars. All Catholic priests are pedofiles.
You will never convince these people that not all of anything is anyway. All Asian people know kung fu. The list is endless but that is people.

well people like to label themselves, it sometimes makes them feel they arn't alone, or they have a group of friends to talk to, some get labeled by other people. to be emo is someone depressed and cuts themselves, any other label has different personalities like preps, some can be annoying and some cool, that goes for everyone, i dont label myself i just want to be me but its just a way to be yourself with people who understand you like different religions, your with people who believe in the same things as you and you feel happy and comfortable.

everyone has their own definitions, but all I Know is that emo and screamo are the two worst music genres. They sound like they are crying and you can't tell if they are male, female, gay, straight or all four.
