No reason to ask anywhere but here. Get a Linksys WRT54GL, period. It must be the GL version, not the G. It is simply the best router around for the money. It can perform as well as a router that costs $1000 plus, trust me on this one. You can find them at newegg.com.

The L stands for Linux by the way. Being an open source router its capabilities are nearly limitless. Stay away from those "super fast" N 108kbs routers. The technology is too new and you'll never hit or need those speeds. You'll waste your money as well. Check out newegg.com and read the users reviews of the product if you need more info.

This all depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to set up a wireless network within your own home you can make your wireless network very (though not completely) secure by using WPA and NOT WEP encryption for communication between the router and your computer.

Beyond that, if you are attempting to connect to an existing wireless network, it is only as secure as the person who designed it has made it. For example, if someone has created a wireless network that just anyone can connect to without any kind of authentication, then your computer is going to be just as open to hacking as the rest of that network.

Also, NEVER have a wireless network connection open on your computer anywhere near a "Black Hat" convention! LOL

absolutely, as long as you have a wireless card there should be no problem hooking up wireless, everything else is just about security settings (like the WEP key) between the PC and the router and/or determining who will manage the wireless connection (in case you are using two wireless cards or an external one). Another thing...you MUST have a DSL or whatever modem before the router or else it won't work.

Go to a good, small computer shop and ask. You have more questions than you realize.
