let the first number be x and second be y
x= 9+5y

you are also given that x+y =75 ...from here you know that y=75-x

substitute this into the previous equation and you get:
x= 9 +5(75-x)
x= 9 + 375 - 5x
6x=384
x= 64

so ur numbers are 64 and 11

64 is 9 more than 5 times 11...means 64 is 9 more than 55...which is true

so you almost got it! Great job!

Here we go

1st #=x
2nd#=5x+9

5x + 9 + x = 75
6x+9=75
-9 -9
6x=66
x=11 therefore (5 x11+9) + 11 = 75
(55+9) +11 = 75
75 =75

1st # = 11
2nd # = 64

hope i helped

Your first number is 5x+9
Your second number is x

You set up your equation correctly. You figured out that the second number was 11.

All you have to do now is plug 11 back into 5x + 9.

5(11) + 9 = 55 + 9
64 is the first number.

You actually did very good (just missed the last step).

It's ok, it's just that they ask you to find the first number so what you have to do is multiply 11 per 5 and add 9, like this

11*5+9 = 64

hope this helps
