I'll be staying downtown KC (Missouri side) this weekend-thursday 30th thru saturday 2nd. I need recommendations for inexpensive dining and some good shopping. I won't have access to a car, so no place to far out of the downtown area.

The city bus has a route called the MAX which connects the downtown Kansas City with the Crown Center shopping Center and the Country Club Plaza Shopping center, It also goes to the river market area where the is some nice restaurants. You got to do lunch at the City Diner in the river market area at 3rd and Grand it is an unpretentious small restaurant with great stick to your ribs food with a very reasonable price and a great place to check out the local "characters". Also there is an abundance of resturants in the 39th street and Southwest BLVD ares and the nitelife will be in the Westport area . Welcome to Kansas City and I hope you enjy your stay. You can get and unlimited pass on the city bus system from the busdriver for $3.00 for the entire day Just ask the driver when you get on your first bus for the day that way if you see any thing interesting you can jump off the bus and check it out and grab the next bus as much as you want. this link is to the information on the MAX bus route and you can surf the website for other information http://www.kcata.org/media/MAXFacts.htm

I'm no expert shopper, but for shopping and eating every KC'er will instruct you to the plaza area near downtown. I've eaten there a few times and the restaurants are top notch. Also, the shopping looked pretty good. People from hundreds of miles away head to the plaza from what I've been told.

Crown Center which is like six miles from downtown and it is a great place to eat, shop, ice skate, and go to the movies all in one place...I strongly recommend this place and you can get in any taxi and tell them to take you to crown center and they will know where it is....Have Fun

if u live in Derby you wont need to pack allot go to the mall there is a beautiful hotel i bet u can go to it!
