People are pushed to the margin because a society refuses to acknowledge their needs, their beliefs, and their concerns. This is when they are called marginalized.

If a group is marginalized it means they have been pushed to the edge or confined (especially of society) in order to reduce the effect, relevance, or significance of that group.
