You can add music from any source as long as it is in either mp3 or aac format. SO yes, your CDs are fine

You should not get an ipod. The way that it is designed is pretty simple. Once you get your ipod connected to the computer, you can ONLY download the music onto that ipod (it happened to my brother's ex-girlfriend). So, if your computer crashes or something, you are screwed. Another bad thing about ipods is that they break easily... and they are just not a good mp3 player. They maybe popular, but they are not good. I recommend either getting a Creative Zen, or the new microsoft Zune... Apple can not be trusted.

If you get any mp3 player I would recommend burning your songs to a cd for backup in case your computer crashes. Especially if you buy all your songs...you would be out a lot of money.
