To solve question 1, you need to convert the percent sales tax into a decimal (.085).
The equation will be:
19.99 + 19.99*.085, or 1.085*19.99.

To solve number 2, first you need to convert 35% off to a decimal (.35). A 35% discount is also the same as 65% of the normal price (.65).
This is:
19.99 - 19.99*.35, or just 19.99*.65
Then, like question 1, multiply by 1.085 to add the sales tax.

For Question 3, simply subtract Question 2 from Question 1.

1) so max is paying 19.99 + 8.5% of 19.99

19.99 + (0.085 x 19.99) = 19.99 + 1.69915 = 21.68915
u could round it off to 21. 69

2) after considering the 35% off
the cost of the shirt is = 19.99 - (35% of 19.99)
= 19.99 - (0.35 x 19.99)
= 12.9935

now add the tax to find out how much max pays
max pays 12.9935 + (8.5% of 12.9935)
=12.9935 + (0.085 x 12.9935)
= 14.0979475
= 14.10

3) So, Max saves (21.69 - 14.10) = 7.59
