Well, volkswagen is a great company they make great cars that are very safe and fun. Now if your willing to spend a little bit more for one then its all yours. But remeber. Its a german company. So parts will cost a tiny bit more if u mess it up and of course competing wiht the japanese car makers like Nissan its going to be a little bit less reliable. If your looking for cheapness, realiablility and a sure "will always get you from point A to point B" car , and your willing to give up some quality, than you should go for the nissan. Otherwise i would say volkswagen beats it any day. All depends on what models your looking at tho.

I am a definite VW fan, especially a fan of their diesel engines. I have had a 1981 Rabbit 5-speed that I finally had to get rid of at 326,600 miles that still gave me 57 mpg, and now have a 2002 Jetta TDI with 76,000 miles and gives me 47 mpg. It's an automatic transmission and that's why I lost 10 mpg, but they last F-O-R-E-V-E-R, and at an extremely low cost in maintenance. As a result, I bought my son a 2004 Jetta TDI, and several of my friends have bought them and love them. My wife once had a 1987 Nissan Maxima which was good, but I didn't need such a fast car and it certainly didn't give me the gas mileage that the VW diesels did, and the cost of maintenance was definitely higher, so I can't see why more people don't drive VW diesels, aka: TDI's. God Bless you.

On The Newer Models They Are About The Same For Quality, And If You Plan On Buying Either One Make Sure Your Close To A Service Center That Works On Them.

Volkswagen for me! I've had a lot of them over many years and loved them all, minimal problems. My last, an '86 Jetta was used as a courier car and beaten to *death* (250 HARD miles a day) it never complained. Every car co. has it's problems though, and don't be fooled, Japanese cars are *not* God's gift to the driving world!

You'll pay more and get a nicer car from VW, but the Nissan is likely to give you fewer problems and cost less in the long run (and short run).
VW's aren't rated very high for their reliability.

If you're looking for reliablity and low cost of ownership i would say Nissan. Rarely have major problems with VWs but, like most European cars, it's always something.

NISSAN, for sure!
It is Japanese technology and VW is assembled in Mexico, even though it is marketed as a European car...
Nissan has a lot of universal parts inside--so they are easier to get a hold of...

It depends on what kind of vehicle you want, VW makes better small sedans and hatchbacks (golf and jetta) the passat is also good (midsize sedan), but nissan has better sports cars (350Z and Skyline) they also make better entry level SUVs. Nissan also tends to be slightly more reliable. VW is trying to change their image, but they are more feminine cars.

Depends on how you mean. Both cars are long lasting and reliable. If you want a cool car, get a nissan. You can easily supe them up to 400 hp (sr20det) for racing, plus honestly if you want to pick up chicks you aient gonna do it in a vw. VW's are for chicks, and guys who play for the pink team. no offense.
