Robert Gates is just as much of a scum bag as Bush. These people are tyrannts that must be stopped immediatly. They are giving us "good Americans" a "bad name." It doesn't matter what your political party is...here....take a look at just a few of the crimes our wonderful President Bush has committed....
1) Seizing power to wage wars of aggression in defiance of the U.S. Constitution, the U.N. Charter and the rule of law; carrying out a massive assault on and occupation of Iraq, a country that was not threatening the United States, resulting in the death and maiming of hundereds of thousands of Iraqis, and thousands of U.S. G.I.s.
2) Lying to the people of the U.S., to Congress, and to the U.N., providing false and deceptive rationales for war.
3) Authorizing, ordering and condoning direct attacks on civilians, civilian facilities and locations where civilian casualties were unavoidable.
4) Instituting a secret and illegal wiretapping and spying operation against the people of the United States through the National Security Agency.
5) Threatening the independence and sovereignty of Iraq by belligerently changing its government by force and assaulting Iraq in a war of aggression.
6) Authorizing, ordering and condoning assassinations, summary executions, kidnaping, secret and other illegal detentions of individuals, torture and physical and psychological coercion of prisoners to obtain false statements concerning acts and intentions of governments and individuals and violating within the United States, and by authorizing U.S. forces and agents elsewhere, the rights of individuals under the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
7) Making, ordering and condoning false statements and propaganda about the conduct of foreign governments and individuals and acts by U.S. government personnel; manipulating the media and foreign governments with false information; concealing information vital to public discussion and informed judgment concerning acts, intentions and possession, or efforts to obtain weapons of mass destruction in order to falsely create a climate of fear and destroy opposition to U.S. wars of aggression and first strike attacks.8) Violations and subversions of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, both a part of the "Supreme Law of the land" under Article VI, paragraph 2, of the Constitution, in an attempt to commit with impunity crimes against peace and humanity and war crimes in wars and threats of aggression against Afghanistan, Iraq and others and usurping powers of the United Nations and the peoples of its nations by bribery, coercion and other corrupt acts and by rejecting treaties, committing treaty violations, and frustrating compliance with treaties in order to destroy any means by which international law and institutions can prevent, affect, or adjudicate the exercise of U.S. military and economic power against the international community.
9) Acting to strip United States citizens of their constitutional and human rights, ordering indefinite detention of citizens, without access to counsel, without charge, and without opportunity to appear before a civil judicial officer to challenge the detention, based solely on the discretionary designation by the Executive of a citizen as an "enemy combatant."
10) Ordering indefinite detention of non-citizens in the United States and elsewhere, and without charge, at the discretionary designation of the Attorney General or the Secretary of Defense.
11) Ordering and authorizing the Attorney General to override judicial orders of release of detainees under INS jurisdiction, even where the judicial officer after full hearing determines a detainee is wrongfully held by the government.
12) Authorizing secret military tribunals and summary execution of persons who are not citizens who are designated solely at the discretion of the Executive who acts as indicting official, prosecutor and as the only avenue of appellate relief.
13) Refusing to provide public disclosure of the identities and locations of persons who have been arrested, detained and imprisoned by the U.S. government in the United States, including in response to Congressional inquiry.
14) Use of secret arrests of persons within the United States and elsewhere and denial of the right to public trials.
15) Authorizing the monitoring of confidential attorney-client privileged communications by the government, even in the absence of a court order and even where an incarcerated person has not been charged with a crime.
16) Ordering and authorizing the seizure of assets of persons in the United States, prior to hearing or trial, for lawful or innocent association with any entity that at the discretionary designation of the Executive has been deemed "terrorist."
17) Engaging in criminal neglect in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, depriving thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi and other Gulf States of urgently needed support, causing mass suffering and unnecessary loss of life.
18) Institutionalization of racial and religious profiling and authorization of domestic spying by federal law enforcement on persons based on their engagement in noncriminal religious and political activity.
19) Refusal to provide information and records necessary and appropriate for the constitutional right of legislative oversight of executive functions.
20) Rejecting treaties protective of peace and human rights and abrogation of the obligations of the United States under, and withdrawal from, international treaties and obligations without consent of the legislative branch, and including termination of the ABM treaty between the United States and Russia, and rescission of the authorizing signature from the Treaty of Rome which served as the basis for the International Criminal Court

Thanks for bringing this up.
The Bush Administration needed a quick replacement, so he probably did not check Gates' application for accuracy. Remember last year when Bush said Brown was doing a fantastic job for FEMA the day before he was asked to step down? Look at all the others Bush has restored since the elections. Look at the minority leader for proof. Look at the fact that Bush has conferred with Henry Kissinger (Nixon-Watergate era) in recent weeks. Bush has no clue.
Bush obviously did not read the history of Robert Gates before appointing him to this position. I think history will show that Rumsfeld, Bush, Cheney and others have been no better, and quite possibly worse than Robert Gates, as hard as that may be to grasp.

For some reason you suffer under the illusion that these people represent the American people. They represent corporations and big money interests ONLY! Always have and always will.
Sadly the American electorate is SOOOOO ignorant that they are easily fooled by propaganda and rhetoric. That is why the powers that be are satisfied to have the horrendous public education system that we have. They want to keep dumbing down the American people so they can be more easily fooled. It's working too.
Don't ever let anybody kid you by saying Bush and his buddies don't know what they are doing and they are idiots. They know EXACTLY what they are doing! What they are is immoral and totally corrupt. Of course the Democrats aren't any better. They have all sold out to big money. All of them!
Don't let this bother you though. You just need to find something else to believe in. Benjamin Franklin, when asked at the close of the Constitutional Covention by a Mrs. Powell,"Well doctor what have you given us a republic or a monarchy?" His reply, "We've given you a Republic if you can keep it." We haven't kept it. So you can no longer believe in the American dream of a fair and honest government. It always was an experiment. It has failed. What the American people think, feel or say, is totally ignored by our so-called representatives. Therefore we do not have a representative government.
John Adams summed up what has happened to our country and our government with this quote," We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of the Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to any other."
We are no longer a moral or religious people. That is why this type of government is not working. As we become more immoral and more irreligious by the day, we are sinking into a hole that this type of government will not get us out of. As Adams said, a Constitutional government ONLY works for a moral and religious people. We are neither. He and our forefathers understood human nature. They understood that the passions of mankind have to be controlled by morality and religion. The history of man has always proven that. They were very intelligent men and they understood what it would take to make this government work and what would tear it down. We are now in the process of tearing it down because the things that controlled our passions, morality and religion, are absent from the present day American character. The passions of greed(avarice), ambition and revenge are running wild in our elected leaders because the bridle of morality and religion has been taken off. Just as Adams said they would.

CPMondello, There are nonetheless many who do. you may want to keep in mind that a lot of what, as you say - includes mild" is what's said through the media. The media hasn't ever been pleasant to Bush - and inspite of ways fairly undesirable Clinton change into, continuously supported him. Following 9/eleven (save in thoughts the terrorists entered the rustic and were educated at the same time as Clinton change into president) we haven't had a terrorist attack ensue adversarial to us. save in thoughts also - a democrat led congress helps the conflict, that is winding down. Bush took massive hits it the clicking for hurricane Katrina - yet, legally that is the duty of states to reply and help, no longer the feds. Even the l. a. governor said that dissimilar cases, despite the indisputable fact that the media not in any respect said that. And no, i'm no longer a huge fan of Bush, nor a hurry Limbaugh fan. i'm purely someone who has faithfully voted because Jimmy Carter ran (and that i voted for him). "Ranger"

I haven't heard of any hard evidence about Reagan's people doing things unofficially behind Carter's back, but his devotion to his party right or wrong seems very evident. His extremely likely involvement in the Iran/Contra affair is common knowledge. I agree with you that he is just another from the same mold as many in the Bush cabinet...good for the ideology of Bush and not representing the views of the population as a whole...self serving seems an adequate adjective.
I want anyone to know that I am a Democrat, but I will be just as hard on a democrat is he feathers his nest by abusing or taking advantage of his position, or foolishly puts his own ideology before logical, careful thought...these guys are in office to make this country safe and to spend our tax dollars wisely, we put them there to govern fairly. the Democrats have been locked out of much of the governing process for years, I expect them to take a little revenge, but when the dust settles, I will demand of my representative constraint and thoughtful decisions that will make this a better place. We need to see the other side of the coin for a while.

Bush and Cheney would hire Satan himself if they could, then they would feel like they were at home. Maybe they have an Oil deal with the Devil to keep it warm for them down in the Hubs of Hell where they will more than likely end up anyway.
