The printing press was invented to create hard-copy manuscripts and books only - replacing monastic monks rewriting books by hand.

Computers and printers can create hardcopies - the internet by itself, cannot. The internet was made to communicate electronically - printing results by chance, and often without revision and editing.

well there were several different versions of printing presses designed before one became the standard model. Even then there were different versions. printing presses couldn't
communicate with each other directly.
