I really like my manager as a person but as a manager, she doesn't know what to do with me - except tell me what to do. She won't let me be proactive and it drives me batty to sit around like a puppet, waiting for her lengthy instructions.

List one thing that you like or dislike about your manager and tell why.

Right now I am working in a pre-school laboratory at my college. I have a mentor teacher who is supposed to teach me the aspects of teaching and monitor my work. The worst thing she does is give unclear instructions then gets upset when I don't produce the desired results.

She asked me to have a description of my agenda for the day posted on the parent board. Then she got upset that I didn't have it formatted in a certain way. How am I supposed to know that: "have a description," translates into "I want it done exactly like this"? Sorry, I guess I don't speak Mentor Teacher. I need someone else to translate for me.

I actually had a baby with my manager from my first job. We have been together for about three and a half years. But I secretly had the total hots for my trainer at my new job. But as for most of my managers, some are okay, some are fantastic, and some are just jerks. My favorite manager was from my last job. Never once did he treat me like I was below him. A real down to earth person who really cares about the people he works with. I am sorry you are not given the chance to show her how great you can work with out her constantly being on you, I hope things look up! Have you ever tried talking to her? Consider explaining what you would like to achieve at work. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

I like my supervisor, both as a personal friend and as a supervisor. He is very inspirational and even though my job gets hectic at times, he always has a smile on his face and tells me I'm doing a great job (and means it). He would do anything in the world for me if I needed it, and I would do the same for him. Guys like him come along only once in a lifetime, and I hope to keep him around as long as I possibly can.

Think about your last job an manager. Compare that. If she is your manager she has every right to tell you what to do.
