I didn't smash it and there is nothing strangling it. What the heck is going on?

Sounds like poor circulation in that one finger for some reason.

There is a circulation disease called Rinegolds disease (I am sure its not spelled that way, but thats what it sounds like). It seems more prominant if you have low blood pressyre and its cold. Of course, it may be a hundred other things, but, look into this one

Go to the hospital now and get it checked. Purple and cold are not a good combination when discussing body parts. Go NOW.

Get to the hospital now! Seems there's no circulation in it.
You don't want it to die and then they have to cut it off.
I know someone had the same with a toe. He lost his.

you may have what is called reynauds disease, it is a circulation problem that happens when your extremity gets cold, the atery spasms and slows blood flow to that part. does it ever loose any color?
