I have numb tingling feeling in my thumbs index and middle fingers. I cannot grasp things very well. I write a lot and use computer 4+hours a day. I heard you don't have to have a certain injury or cause for it to happen

It sounds like it. Symptoms usually start gradually, with frequent burning, tingling, or itching numbness in the palm of the hand and the fingers, especially the thumb and the index and middle fingers. Some carpal tunnel sufferers say their fingers feel useless and swollen, even though little or no swelling is apparent. The symptoms often first appear in one or both hands during the night, since many people sleep with flexed wrists. A person with carpal tunnel syndrome may wake up feeling the need to "shake out" the hand or wrist. As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day. Decreased grip strength may make it difficult to form a fist, grasp small objects, or perform other manual tasks. In chronic and/or untreated cases, the muscles at the base of the thumb may waste away. Some people are unable to tell between hot and cold by touch.

CTS is caused by repetive movements of the wrist or hand. It is when the carpal tendon can not fit through the sleath anymore due to swealling and decreasing size of sleath. You have described some of the very common telltale symptoms of CTS, but the only way to know is to see a doctor There is also other syndromes that are very simaller. Or it could be something else.

As far as treatment there is splints, therapy, and surgeries.
I went through all of them and still have symptoms

Yes to all of the above... get an eval by a MD. I had it (thankfully I was able to take care of it without surgery). They can test your grip strength and see if it's below what it should be, then they give you a nerve conduction test... they put some electrodes on your shoulder and hand and measure how fast the impulse is conducted. If the nerves are indeed being compressed in the tunnel, the "slow down" will be detected.

Yup-those are the signs and symptoms of CTS. One test to confirm this is to let your wrist hang loose for a minute. If the symptoms get worse, then you are positive for CTS(Phalen's test). Surgery is usually the last resort for CTS. You need to see an orthopedist or hand surgeon.

There is a good chance that it is CTS. Best bet if you want to avoid surgery is to find a chiropractor that will adjust extremities. You might have to call around.

hmm... that sounds a LOT like myself... i always see bruises on my wrists, too. my friend has it and told me something similar, that you dont need to have a certain injury or anything...but i think its almost becoming common among people, especially since computers and other technological advances have caused us to stay set in one place WAY too long for our hands/wrists too handle. heh.

Sounds like it, but ask your MD. Work MD, if that's possible.
