I'm seeking advice on making sure my Christmas tree stays nice and green and fresh from now until Christmas. What do you suggest I do to make sure it doesn't die on me?

Before you set it up, make sure to cut a couple of inches off the bottom of the trunk. This exposes non-sealed wood which will absorb water better. Some say to use aspirin or sugar in the water, but the best advice is to keep enough water in the pan so that the tree can absorb it. The first week it will absorb the most, with the rate of consumption reducing thereafter.

Don't set up your tree too close to heat vents, radiators, or fireplaces. The extra heat from these sources dry out the needles and can reduce the enjoyable lifespan of it. Also, in extreme circumstances, they can cause a fire hazard.

Use low-heat lights - the mini kind work pretty well, and don't overload the circuit with too many strings hooked together.

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

When buying your tree if its all ready been cut run your hand down a few branches and make sure you do not have a lot of needles fall to the ground. Once you get it home be sure to cut off a least an inch from the bottom and when you put it in the stand filling it for the first time use hot water… then each day be sure to check the water never let it fall below the bottom for if you do it will seal up and no matter how much water you put in after it will not drink it… we do this every year and our trees always last a very long time and keep the fresh cut tree smell.

It is also a good idea not to decorate the tree right away... let it sit for a full 24 hours so it has time to open up for if you start right away you will find by the end of the next day your ornaments are falling off.

What works every year for my tree is to make sure u change out the water daily and add sugar to it every time. Also put 1 aspirin in the water..these really work. I usually buy my tree right after thanksgiving and keep it up until new years and my tree always keeps it fresh christmas tree smell and stays that pretty green color.
