A better idea would be to give your roommates the password to the wireless router. Disabling the security on the router will allow anyone to connect, even people you don't want to connect.

If you disable security, someone could walk by outside, connect to your network, do something wrong (such as vandalize a website) and it would be traced back to you. So you should leave the security on and give your roommates the password, you can always change the password later.

By disabling netowrk’s security (encryption, MAC filtering – first need to be done both in router and in PC, second just in router’s interface). Be aware however that by doing so you might be vulnerable to someone being able to monitor all your traffic (including loggings and passwords, e-mails, IMS etc etc). To keep network open and be secured from sniffing sensitive information at the same time, you could use this free client (turning it on for instance only when conducting sensitive task – as logging with passwords to some pages or Internet services):

Personally I also would tighten PC security to make sure someone is not trying to hack you through shares or exploits after making science of your open ports – helpful tool:

2 things you can do...

1. you either give your password to your roommate

2. reset the router to factory default. the default password is in your manual. you can reconfigure the router they way you want it. Change the password, enabling/disabling the SID, WEP keys and MAC Filter etc...

good luck.
