It really depends on how much time you want to spend with it. Fish are great pets because they are easy to take care of, but they usually dont live long and you have to keep buying more, but if you want a fish, fantail goldfish are pretty and they only cost like 2 dollars at the most. I have a gecko that stays in a fish tank (no water of course) but it needs very little care and i only have to feed it about 2 times a week. You do have to feed it live crickets though, so if you dont like bugs a gecko isnt for you. Geckos can be handled and played with or they can just "sit pretty" in the tank. Either way they are happy but if you do get one only get ONE when you get more than one they usually fight alot. and DONT get turtles they stink to the high heavens.
Hope i helped some.

Hermit crabs don't live very long in captivity in my experience, i've heard turtles are good pets.
However i would suggest a siamese fighting fish, all you need is a decent size tank to give it some swimming room and a heater they're not very expensive at all. Other than that you're probably going to start running into money...

why don't you go to petco or where ever, get a small glass bowl and then go to the fish section and get one or two of those feeder goldfish looking small fish (they cost like 5c each or something inexpensive like that)... tell the fish guy to give you plenty of water in the baggie so that you can fill up the little fish bowl w/ the existing water... so that you don't have to start w/ buying chemicals and such. get a little bit of fish food and try it out first. if you like this whole fish idea, then you can get a nicer aquarium w/ a nicer fish... read about it or ask the fish guy. but start w/ a few dollars and find out if it's really something you want before you dump a whole bunch of money into something that might not be your thing.

Well, first, all animals have their own smell. Fish tanks can become very stinky if they're not properly taken care of. Fish are wonderful pets especially if you don't have a lot of money, considering of course that you're not going to get elaborate about it's surroundings and such. Goldfish are great beginner fish, and are very inexpensive. Best Wishes with whatever you choose.

get a gold fish from a pet store. at walmart they use the same net in all the tanks so if 1 fish is sick the all are. at pet stores they don't plus they can help you more b/c they know more about what they are doing.

my bro got me 7 feeder type goldfish for like $2. The last one just died, it lasted 10 years or so.
koi are nice too
maybe a tough turtle could be good too, maybe it might like being around you sometimes and wouldn't let you kill it

you need to make up your mind! seems your in a little pinch. narrow down what you really want, if financially you can afford it and most of all, how much time can you spend with it? even hermit crabs need time with the one they love. good luck

get a puffer fish. they are awsome, they can be a fresh water breed( you can use normal tap water to take care of them) and they are semi agressive. whatever type of fish you get make sure that they are all aggressive or nonaggressive or they will kill each other. good luck!!!
