So, I got an old, old twenty dollar bil out of the cash machine today. I don't way "old, old" as if 56 years is ancient, but I collected coins in the past, and I know how rare it is to get a bill *or* coin (other then a nickel) in change that is this old. Espeically because a bill has an average lifespan of 25 months before it is recycled and destroyed.

So, here are the details: Its a Series 1950. The serial is D-19707249-A and the D represents, I believe, the same D that has the city Federal Reserve Bank signified. It is D-Cleveland, Ohio.

The treasurer is John W. *somethingorother* and no, it is not the John W. Snow that graces our bills today.

It says "Will pay to the bearer on demand Twenty Dollars" at the bottom, but it is not a silver or gold certficate.

Anyone have a clue whether this is worth more then 20 bucks, and if so, why, and how much, and where, etc? Thanks. Any help would be appreciated. I'm really more curious then anything at getting this from an ATM...

It is a series 1950 exactly. with no "series" letter after it, such as "A" or "B" as many bills from the time had. It is not a silver or gold certificate... I personally thought they stopped those in the 30's when America went off the gold standard but that could be wrong. Either way, its definitely not a silver or gold certificate. I already did some basic but well worded internet searches for the answer, and found nothing helpful. Thanks--

The series 1950 $20 Federal Reserve Note is signed by Clark and Snyder. The letter in the seal to the left of the portrait and above the serial number, has a letter in it that denotes the Federal Reserve District it was printed for. In grade fine it has no collectors value and the way you describe the note, it doesn't even come close to being fine. Nice find but that is about it. it is not a rare note or even scarce.

WELL you said the bill is from the 1950s? I am pretty certain all the bills of that time were Silver Certificates, could it a be counterfeit?

this is really interesting, I am a part time collector of coins too. I would really like to know what comes out of this. I was alive in the 50s and I don't remember any bills that weren't Silver Certificates.
