If you've been ripping your CDs into mp3 format you have nothing to worry about - mp3 is a universal open format that you can use across any player.

If you didn't make sure you are ripping to mp3, you are probably ripping to unprotected wma format. iTunes will automatically convert thee files to mp3 or AAC formats when you load them in iTunes, but there will be some quality degradation due to the conversion process.

I suggest you load the song files you've ripped into iTunes and see if you are happy with the quality. If you can't tell the difference, then no problems. If you can, start re-ripping into mp3 format (you can set the import format in the preferences).

You can rip into wma or AAC formats, but since mp3 (and to a lesser extent mp4) is still the only universally accepted format, its your best bet for ripping music.

iPods will play all kinds of files, but the don't play wma files - its a Microsoft protected format

the ipod is designed for use with an iPOD purely!! many songs bought on itunes save are DRM replica secure and would purely be performed on an IPOD paired to teh account that bought them,, some itunes PLUS songs are literally not DRM constrained and could be exported both th CD or personal computer then use the loader application that got here with the philips to play them - be conscious the itunes songs use mpe4 aac audio encoding so will purely play ona a MP4 or m4a compaitble participant and by no ability al are!

I tunes will import music from your computer and will encode them to ac3 format which is what IPODs use. You will be alright.
