early metallica was kick ***. you couldnt hold a candle to what they were doin but now its kinda like eh but still without a doubt one of the greatest metal bands of all time. regardless of what everybody else says

no, not at all-who gives a **** about old/new whatever or how many album sales they have or them selling out hey i am die hard old metallica and i was disapointed with the black album when it came out but still i was 16 and matured alot as a musician myself so therefore i do appreciate the difference in their direction and before i get flooded with e-mails of hatred from all the old schoolers i will have you know that i would love more than anyone to see metallica return to the sound of justice- bottom line is hetfield is the best songwriter of all time lars is one of the top drummers hammet is one hell of a guitarist trujilo is no burton but what you have is a group of musicians that gel very well with each other and they are far from over rated

There old stuff was the sh*t. New stuff sucks. I dont really think Metallica is overrated at all. If any band is overrated it would be Led Zeppelin. But i still love both bands.

They were once originators of the metal genre. Now they are rich, bloated, crybabies. They sold out in the mid 90's, then fought downloading. I love all the stuff before 90 though.

Yeah, their first 4 albums are good, but then they released the black album with its power ballads and cut their hair. All their albums after that have sucked.
