You must to know the density, d. Then use the formula m = vd and you will know the mass of compound. Divide m by M (molar mass) and this is number of molles, n
n = vd/M

If it's a gas then 1 mole = 22.4 L
If it's a solution and you know the molarity then multiply the volume by the molarity

mL is a unit of volume, moles is a unit of substance amount. You need to know the molar volume of the substance.
