I have a 2003 Buick Rendezvous and the hydraulic hatchback will not work. It's like heavy, like those cylinders are not working.I know I can take it to the dealership, but it seems like it shouldn't be too hard to do it myself.

Call a local used parts dealer (junkyard) and ask them if they have it. usually the answer is no but they will offer to put your request out on their FAX network. That sends the request to all of the other junkyards in the area. If anyone has it they will contact you with info and price.

You can also do the same thing on-line and get the choice of new parts, sued parts, or aftermarket replacement parts. Just google with the description like "Buick 2003 hatchback hydraulic hatchback"

Any auto parts store can fix you right up.

BUT, be VERY careful installing the new ones! You need to carefully prop the tailgate in the full up position before you remove the old ones. If it slips, it will come crashing down on you -- very painful! Been there, done that! It is NOT an easy job and is definitely NOT a one-person job!

One more tip -- even if only one is shot, replace both of them.

Call an auto parts store and ask them for the lift supports for the hatch. Call around, as you will get a different price from each place you call. They usually are pretty easy to install them yourself. Taking it to a dealer will cost you well over $100.00 just for labor, and they mark up the parts at least 5 times their cost compared to anyone else. The parts store I work for usually has them for $12.99 to $29.99. depending on the application, and sometimes more if they have to be ordered in.

I would recommend a trip to your local junkyard. Take your tools, and find a similar car....take the part off and pay a couple bucks for it and take it home.

Or go to an auto parts place. Tell them what kind of car you have. They will sell you a new one.

Unfortunately, some parts are dealer only items. But go to your favorite parts store and ask first.
