In high school, even though I knew I was naturally intelligent and got high ACT/SAT scores, I got a pretty low GPA/class rank due to former feelings of depression, isolation, insecurity, and addictions to gaming/surfing the internet.

But I finally got over that during my high school senior year by becoming a much more loving, honest, and social person and getting romantically involved with an attractive girl in my high school. For some reason, I guess due to the happiness/good sense of belonging, I finished the last 3 quarters with straight As, getting the highest grade in some of my classes, too. So I decided to go to community college for a semester. I managed to get straight As there/top 5 semester class rank there too and then I transferred to the large good state college (University of Minnesota: Twin Cities).

So anyway, now that I'm finally at the college that I want to be in, will I be able to join the honors program/graduate in honor societies, etc?

So really, what I'm asking is, as long as I'm willing to keep up the hard work/motivation and stay happy, will I be able to get into the previous academic programs/clubs that I previously couldn't make it into due to my low high school GPA?

I did the same. I was a poor high school student getting mostly C's and even D's, to getting straight A's and B's in College. I now have a Masters of Science degree and am doing quite well with my life.

You can go as far and as high as you want. Your past will only weigh you down as much as you let it!

Keep reaching for the stars!

Hey, just do the best that you can. That is all any of us can do right? I think you will do just fine if you apply yourself and stay away from too many parties. I am sure you know that though. Just keep on the course you are on and you should sail right through it. Good luck and congratulations that you are proving yourself more capable then you realized.
P.S. Listen to everyone above me also. I gave them all a thumbs up on their answers.

Yes, absolutely! Many "less than average" high school students graduate from a university with high honors. There's no reason that you can't do that! Yes, you will be able to join those groups if you choose to.

Of course! You are the only person who can stop you from achieving your final goal. Now that you're on a roll just keep doing what you are doing and the sky is the limit.

Good luck with it all! And congratulations on kicking the bad habits to the curb.

Change of environment works miracles when you are doing something that you love. You can go as far as you are willing to go. Set realistic goals and have a vision where you want to be in 3.5. 10 years.

Good Luck
