Something that is more important about how much "it could or could not hurt," is the fact that you're 16 and you have a lot of life ahead of you that can be adversely affected if you make the decision to have sex at such an early age. I know it doesn't really matter to many people now, but sex is a big deal. Not only are there the possibilities of pregnancy and STD's, but it's a big deal in regards to whom you decide to give your virginity up to. There's a lot that comes with the act of sex- not just what you see on the surface... please, think about this before acting on it. Take it from a girl who has been there and is glad that she waited for the right guy. :) (I have only had sex with one man- and he turned out to be the man that I married. I'm so thankful that he's the only one who I have ever given myself to in that way... it makes our relationship so much more close, and sentimental.) And just for the record, it didn't hurt me one bit. No pain whatsoever.

That all depends on a number of factors including the size of the mans penis, the way he penetrates the hymen (gently or roughly),
but most importantly the degree of stimulation of the girl. Some people say it doesn't hurt at all, but my own experience was moderate pain, lasting only for a few seconds, a bit of blood and a bit of soreness for a day. It's well worth the pain because next time it's fine.
