America should be serious with the Iraq issue or else it will be another Vietnam. Troops must stay or leave completely, it is only one choice but must be properly implemented.

I personally don't support the "cut and run" philosophy, but at the same time I don't think we need more regular troops in Iraq or Afghanistan either! Because the enemy uses guerrilla and terrorist tactics, what we need is more intelligence (Military intelligence, CIA, Secret Service, etc) to find these terrorist groups and stop them before they can strike. At the same time, more should be done to show the Iraqi people that we do care about them - send in more Army Corps of Engineers personnel to work on speeding up the rebuilding (in some cases building where it didn't exist before) infrastructure like schools, power plants, etc.

Keep some troops in place, but rotate in the elements I mentioned while the Iraqi people pick up more of the job (and the bill), and perhaps we can be out of there within the next 5 years.

Because they are owned by the same people who own Bush. These same people are making huge profits from the war. Remember, politicians say what they need to say in the moment, in order to get elected. Lincoln was anti slavery to abolitionist audiences, but offered the South the option of keeping slavery if they would end secession peacefully.* Giuliani promoted gun control when running for mayor in a city who's population was mostly in favor of it, but is now very anti-gun control when he needs to appeal to a wider Republican audience. Clinton, Edwards, and the rest say they want the troops out because the message will appeal to most of the Democratic base. These same people voted to authorize the war, in spite of having access to the same information that I had** that told me that the war was sold on false premises. I have no illusions that who ever is elected, Republican or Democrat, will show any regard for the will of the vast majority of the people. They will all serve the will of the less than one percent that foot the bill of getting them elected.

Ok , you go over there and pick half of each unit to go home and tell the other half they get to stay and die because you cut the force in half .
Or maybe you'd prefer they ALL come out at once .
One long convoy thru a 300 mile shooting gallery of ambushes , land mines and IUD's .
Either way , you condem 10,000 or more to die and tell the dictators of the world America is too chicken sh-t to finish the job .

Thank God , you're not in command of anything more important than your teddy bear .

Government is not the answer , it's the problem .

I didn't know what your last question was but bringing half the troops home (yes I do have a son in Iraq) would be a disaster I agree with "Up the troop level then slowly bring them back home",... along with my boy safe and whole.

The Iraqi people are in a civil war. Our young people are being used as police protection. The trouble is which group do you protect and why?

When we cut down on troops in Viet Nam, using the tactic of cutting back, we lost another 2,000 troops on the way out. If we leave the people will split themselves into three groups, live where and with the ones they want to live with and adjust their society accordingly.

I say get them out of there, the war, which never should have been, has been lost, quit killing and maiming our young people.

We do need our troops home but if we bring them home right now we would just be admitting defeat and that is all a terrorist needs to go ahead and come here and terrorize our nation!

I guess you just don't understand. If we are defeated in Iran, then the terrorists will come after us just like the Communists after our defeat in Vietnam. The more things change...........
