The word "bit" has several meanings. I'll assume you need a noun since you said "a bit." In addition to being the smallest piece of data, another definition for the word is related to horses. The bit is a piece of metal that is attached to the harness that goes around the horses head. The bit goes into the horse's mouth and it is what you use to "steer" the horse in the direction you want.

A bit is the smallest peice of data in existance. It can also mean a pixel, or one unit of color. A bit could actualy be the smallest anything. Context please!!
