I believe Simplicity has patterns for uniforms that don't need to be authentic.

The real deal is very difficult to sew, but try Patterns of the Past or Amazon Drygoods.

Try the library of a university that is located in a city known for it's civil war history such as Richmond, Gettysburg, etc.
