It depends on the reason(s) you were put on it to begin with I guess. That and your doctors advice would be helpful, naturally. But you should wean yourself off, decreasing the amount (mgs)with the observation occassionally and advisement of your doctor. It depends on what mg dosage you are on and go from there. It has to be done slowly.

This is not a question that I would feel comfortable for you to ask on this site. Since there are many medications that have side effects with sudden withdrawal, you would do better to have your doctor help you get off the Paxil. The doctor may have another that works better anyway.

Personally, I had no problem just stopping the Paxil but that may not happen to everyone. I have a friend that just weaned herself off by taking one every other day for a week , and then one every three days for a week, and one every four days for a week, and etc. She did okay. But again, your best option is to call your doctor and tell him/her that you want to be off Paxil and need help. The one who prescribed it for you has the responsibility of helping you, so don['t worry about it, because they should be more than willing to assist you.

Best of success to you. Paxil has been shown to be a good drug and maybe it has stopped working for you because your body could have developed an immunity to it, and now it is no longer effective.
Bottom line, don't do this alone, seek the help of the doctor who prescribed it.

I would taper off of the drug. So, for example, if you take 20mg daily; I would take 20 mg daily for 1 week, then 10mg (1/2 tab) daily for a week or 2, and then either stop, or if side effects start to happen, take it every other day (at 10mg) for a week or two. Overall, I would taper over at least 2-4 weeks to prevent side effects from withdrawal of the medication. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Do it very very slowly. I came off it way too quick and I sat in bed for two days crying. I was a mess.

I hate Paxil and would rather be crazy then take that crap again.

ru taking them through ur doc? ask him if so. If not, u need to ween urself off don't stop cold turkey.Try dropping ur dose down lil by lil. If u can't cut the pill in 1/2 then try taking it every otherday mayb. But I don't feel very comfortable telling u this. U really should see a doc to go off any med.

I hated it when I had to get off when I was pregnant. It is so brutal. I really dont know, you may just have to ride it out. Weaning didnt work for me. What I did notice thogh is that sugar and caffeine made it worse. Good luck.

I've been on it for many years. Your doctor will help "wean" you off it. DON'T just quit taking it, it will have side effects.

Ask your doctor how you should decrease it to go off of it. I believe it is one of those medicines that you have to decrease the dosage a little at a time.
