Is there anything as wonderful as wearing a bona fide evening gown? Is there anything more depressing than "casual" dress every day at all times in all places?

Now, the question: apart from weddings and high school dances, how many times have you worn an evening gown?

Yes,yes and yes.I agree..I have a wardrobe, plus, full of really great clothes that just don't fit the lifestyle I live now.I still cant resist buying a fabulous dress particularly if its marked down in price .Same goes for shoes and boots. My lifestyle has changed but I still leap at every chance I get to dress up. Sometimes I do I just for fun.Nothing like waltzing around the supermarket in stiletto boots and a designer dress,or volunteering to be a supervisor/chaperone for a teenage debutante ball, just so you can wear that evening gown you've never worn yet, that's just hanging in the wardrobe. .Its all to do with being female.
Before I moved to the country I worked in the entertainment industry and went to a lot of receptions first nights etc, which required formal dress or being very well dressed. Now its mostly jeans and T shirts.

I go to an Italian dance every December 13 (Santa Lucia dinner dance) and I wear an evening gown. It is really too bad that there aren't enough functions in today's society to wear formal dress. People are just too casual nowadays. How's about you rent your local hall and have a black tie party? Good luck.

A lot. I was in a girls group called Job's Daughters which is part of the Masons. We wore formals all the time. We also had titles like Princess and Honored Queen instead of President and Vice President and we were given tiaras and capes. So from the time I was 11-20, it was like a constant dress up

YES ! ! ! I too wish there were more opportunities to get all "gussied up" as we say in the south!

This is one aspect of cruises that I always look forward too. There are usually 2 - 3 or 4 nights of Formal Dress. Men in tux's and ladies in their formal wear. Nice!

I used to run a black tie fundraiser for about 7 years, and I really miss dressing up like that. I love it!
