What is the mileage of the car? 120,000 miles
What is the mileage of the replacement engine? 20,000 miles

Most people will tell you when you are looking at a car, it has 80,000 mile with 20,000 on a new engine, or something like that. People like to know they have a good engine with a few test miles on it to make sure it was a good swap. But like some of the other answers, it doesn't change the original miles on the car.

only on the engine does it go back...everything else stays the same...so just keep a reminder of the milage when the new engine was installed...and this will help when getting ready to sell the vehicle.
