My cousin came to the house today in a panic. He says he was abducted last night by aliens. I told him he was an idiot and he just said it really happened. He says they did weird experiments on him and then brought him back in his bed. I told him it was probably just a dream. How can I convince him he wasn't abducted? He is 14.

What is your great need to crush someone's beliefs?
Perhaps there's a reason he's needing some attention... Perhaps he really was abducted... unless you were actually there you don't really know. It was just plain mean, though to call him an idiot. Think about it... does your cousin often "tell tales?" try to convince you of something totaly false? or is this uncommon for him to do?
Don't belittle him in this.. there will come a time when you need him to belive something unbelieveable...

Well, he could have had a very vivid night-mare. As docters call it, a Night-Terror. Just keep him calm and say that aliens have a higher roster of more important people to abduct.

If the nightmares continue, call a psycologest.

It might be a delusion, but what if he is right? If it is a delusion, then it is a metaphorical way of trying to work out a personal crisis. Humor him. Get him to someone who will not make the task one of convincing him that it is a delusion but instead will use it as a launchpad for examining what is really bothering him.

He probably was. Tell him he can buy protection from you for the right amount of money or brown-nosing; tell him you are now actually an alien yourself, and in charge of the area. Sort of the Alien Mafia, as it were.

How do you know that this didn't happen. Stranger things have happened before and I am sure they will again. Believe your cousin as he is one of the chosen ones.

agree with him.
But, some people who claim this have a very serious mental disorder, and have translated some sort of trauma into this alien fantasy.
He might be a victim of some sort of abuse, or something serious.

lol first, slap him, then ask him if his butt hurts and what kind of experiments they did, if he comes up with logical answers to all these then you were succesful, if he still thinks he was abducted repeat until you recieve the desired result
