Christopher Columbus's sailing ships on his first voyage on August 3, 1492 were the "Pinta" (captained by Pinzon's brother, Vicente Yanez), the "Niña" (captained by Martin Alonzo Pinzon), and the "Santa María" (Columbus flagship).Columbus set sail from Spain with these three small Spanish sailing ships on a voyage that eventually led him to America.
The Santa Maria
>>The flagship of the Columbus fleet, it was a "nao".

>> It was a merchant ship, between 200-600 tons.
>>Boat's length was 75 feet with a wide beam, 25 feet.
>>Carry more people and cargo.

>>Lost on Christmas Eve in 1492 when it aground off Hispaniola and had to be abandoned.
The Pinta
>>The second in size, which wasthree-masted, square rigged caravel aproximately 70 feet long, with a beam of 26 feet, and a draft just over 7 feet.
>>Carried 26 men.
>>Captained by Martin Alonso Pinzon who deserted Colombus and discovered the island of Babeque (Great Inagua )
>>La Pinta was caught in a hurricane in July 1500 and went down in the vicinity of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The Nina
>>Originally named Santa Clara.
>>Carried about 58 to 60 tons cargo, was 67 feet long with 23 feet beam and 5.8 feet draft.
>>Smallest of the three caravels, which was a four-masted ship.
>> The original Captain, during the first voyage, was Vincente Yanez Pinzon, but after losing of the Santa Maria, Columbus became the captain.
>>Colombus ship on his second and third voyage,
>>Was sold in1499.
On his second voyage on September 25, 1493 he had 17 ships and the "Mariagalante" was his flagship.
On his third voyage on May 30, 1498 he had six ships.
On his fourth voyage on on May 9, 1502, he had four ships: Capitana, Gallega, Vizcaína and Santiago de Palos.
In the course of his four voyages, Christopher Columbus lost nine ships namely: Gallega, Vizcaina, Santiago de Palos, Capitana, Mariagalante, Gallega, San Juan, Cardera, and Santa Maria.

Sandwich Q Grande was a pioneer of high seas cookery. This may be an Urban Myth however as Grande pops up throughout that period of history. I for one am a believer! Vive la Grande!
