I have no idea what GFR means, but an academic discipline is equivalent to a department. Thus, the phrase you cite means that in the situation to which you are referring, a student must take two courses offered by the same department.

Examples of departments: Psychology, Biology, Economics, English, Political Science, Classics, Anthropology, Religious Studies, History, etc.
