If we leaglaize prostitution it will cut down on the violence and other crimes involved in it.
Also, if it is legalized we can screen them to make sure they don't have any STDs (also it might be good for a man to have proof of this too). If it was legalized the prostitutes could go to the cops if their pimps abuse them.
This is an extream arguement and I wqant you to think about it because it is about as much sence as a lot of arguements I've heard to support legalizing other things.

First of all I am not saying I sapport prostitution. It is just a protection for the women who get sucked into it.

Yes, I agree with you. The U.S government should legalize the prostitution. I can't believe that America is still super conservative, and the religious fanatics still influence on the government. Gosh!!!

I agree with these arguments.
Like it not, some segment of the population is always going to try to buy sex, and some segment is always going to try to make money by selling it. Prostitution exists even in the most repressive regimes.
Faced with this fact, it only makes sense to bring prostitution under the protection and oversight of the law. When any trade is made illegal, the only means of settling disputes is through violence. When trade is given legal sanction, disputes can be resolved peacefully in courts.
Other legalized vices don't have the same level of violence as prostitution. When was the last time you heard of a shootout between Coors and Budweiser?

well that's a good question. because it sounds like a smart idea when you can get them screened for STD/report pimps. but when you look at the situation, legalizing PROSTITUTION just doesn't seem right.

Sounds like a lot of government bureaucracy ... I'm sure they would love to tax sex. They tax everything else. I don't see it as a control for STD's though. With all business, there will be people who don't follow the rules ... hence STD's.

I think if you're willing to pay a hooker for sex and take advantage of her desperate need for money you deserve to catch her STD... Its like karma. If you create a legal prostitution industry... I guess I can't argue with your points... But it certainly isn't going to protect the "sanctity of marriage" and it isn't going to encourage people to respect each other. Just more encouraged objectification. No more love in sex.

Grand idea.
And when our already skyrocketing epidemics of Hep. C and HIV continue to increase, we can be happy in knowing that every hooker that gets infected is now entitled to "permanent work disability".
Then the state pays the hooker to sit home and... not.. have... sex? That doesn't make much sense.
Maybe we can legalize drugs too, so that dealers and mobsters can go to the police when they get pistol whipped for stealing the stash, too.

Prostitution must not be legalized because it will open the floodgates for women not to work in good jobs but simply open their legs, have sex and get the money they wanted.
