It seems as though Johnny Depp's wants for Jack Sparrow have contradicted themselves this past year. Prior to the theatrical release of Dead Man's Chest, Depp was quoted as saying that he would love to continue playing Jack Sparrow after the third movie if the script was good. However, after the theatrical release of the movie, Depp was quoted as saying that he'll be through playing Sparrow after the third movie because it was time to move on. It's possible that he may have knowledge of future movies and is simply saying contradicting things in order to throw people off.

The third movie is supposedly the last of the Pirates movies...titled "At World's End." There have been rumors flying that a fourth movie might be made, though if one is made, it's unlikely we'll see the same core characters. The only one to speak of the rumor has been Jerry Bruckheimer who has simply said that he hopes a 4th movie could be made if a good story was in place. The rumors have also been flying around that Will Turner would die in the 4th movie...which was allegedly leaked by a Disney insider. However, Walt Disney Pictures has denied this rumor and cast/crew are not speaking about it. So this is simply a wait and see...no one knows the truth except for those part of the film, and they're not talking.

Contrary to another person's response, Orlando Bloom's character is *not* unessential, in fact if you watch the story closely, you'll see the story is more about him than anyone else (Dead Man's Chest focused more on Will Turner than any other character). Perhaps if more movies were made after the core trilogy, his character might become more unessential, but for now, his character does play a pivotal role (in the first movie it was the need to have him break the curse since his blood was needed, in the second movie you see a strong focus on Will/Bootstrap Bill as well as Will/Davy Jones...and the eery similarities Will and Davy Jones had in regards to love and sacrifice).

I think they should pull a Star Wars and come out with six. Three of which being pre-quals, since Johnny Depp loves his role so much..

1. Curse of the Black Perl
2. Dead Man's Chest
3. At Worlds End
4. The Legend of Jack Sparrow
5. The Captain
6. The Mutiny

At this moment the is only, officialy, going to be three instalments of the "Pirates" series. The director, Gore Verbenskie, said that if they were to do a fourth that they have a rough storyline ready but it really depends on how At World's End goes. Another factor is that Kiera Knightly said that she is not interested in doing a fourth film and that she 'Would like to move on to better roles' (Not exact quote but its what I remember). I can see them continuing without her as long as they keep Jack Sparrow, sorry, CAPTIAN Jack Sparrow and Johhny Depp said he would play him in 100 more films.
So to sum it all up, no one really knows for sure.

They definitely said there would be three and that one of the main characters would die in the 3rd one. It has to be Orlando Bloom because his character is sooooo non-essential.
