Well, as you already know, you can work a maximum of 20 hours a week on a part-time or casual basis. It's pretty easy to get a job there at market research firms, restaurants, fast food restaurants, cafes, retail shops etc, but it's important you have your work visa beforehand. You cannot get work without a work visa and it's illegal to work. So you can either apply for a work visa in Melbourne itself which takes up to a month to get or apply from home. You get paid per hour there and if you're over 18, which I'm sure you are, you get higher pay. Let's say 15 dollars an hour is average. It is usually higher, but sometimes lower.

Girls here get work here just as easily as guys. The average wage depends on the job. The better English you have the more likely you are to get a better job. I know a lot of Chinese students are stuck in lower paid Chinese Restaurant jobs because their spoken English isn't very good. I think for the Chinese Restaraunts it's about $8.50 p/h . My sister I think was getting around $11 -$12 p/h when she was 17 working at Clints which was the highest paying shop in that Mall. Office work... You might be able to get a part time job. But your Spoken and Written English would need to be good. Those jobs are around $16 p/h +. For holidays when you can work 40 hrs pw you might try temp jobs though you prob wouldn't be able to do these for the times that you can only work 20 hrs pw. Also these are office jobs so the same requirements apply. You would also need decent Microsoft Office and typing skills.

If you want to get work, you need to show prospective employers your intelligence.
Your choice of slang words would put me on the back foot right away.
If you present yourself as a respectable and responsible person, you should have little trouble finding a job in the field of your choice.
However, if you choose to talk like an idiot, then be prepared to be treated like one.
Good luck. I hope you take this advise in the spirit it is intended - that is to be helpful to you.

It would be nice to see people who come here to study use good English. The word is "there" not "dere" and it is "they" not dey.
We do expect more from people who are doing "higher" studies. :o)
