nope its not discrimination its there policy like at any fortune 500 company whom make there rules and policy's.. what old lady wants a pink punk rocker doing there hair if they wanted that they'd go to visible changes or Toni and Guy... So quick tripping its a job and if u want to do hair at that salon follow the rules etc... An if u don't like save up your money and open your own salon OK and make your own policy ... so be a fool and be unemployed like others OK whom want to rebel because of some bull crap about your image conform and wear your punk rock crap after work .. thank u is paying bills and having a roof over your head and grocery's more important than looking like panic at the disco or Jared leto etc... So do the right thing and take the job its time to grow up and let go of childish teen things

Technically, it is discrimination. But it's not covered by the law. If an employer requires a specific dress code, which can include tattoos, piercings, and non-natural hair color, like pink or blue, then you as the employee are expected to follow it.
I understand that the woman didn't want to offend her clients, and she wants to make sure that they continue to be repeat customers. And yes, many business where the employees work with the public prefer a more "traditional" look. BUT, in this age of trends and styles, there is a very wide range of things that you can and will see in people. So a more modern look in her stylists may draw a younger clientele to her shop who would prefer you. Plus, there is no reason that the "elderly" couldn't just avoid you if they don't like your look, and continue going there to the people who already do their hair or whatever.
If it was me, I wouldn't take the job and look for a workplace that allows their employees to express their individuality.

Go to a different salon. I wouldn't want to work with a lot of elderly people if I was as fun as you! I'd work at someplace that gets more people your age.

It would piss me off but that's the way the world is you don't have to take the job but most other places will be the same way. my uncle worked at a rest home and was told to cover up his tattoos on his arms with a long sleeve shirt.

No it's not descrimination. Unfortunately people very often get freaked out when they say things like piercings and tatoos.. especially old people. just hide that part of you when u go to work and live your life on weekends :)
