Never just jump for an agent. Take acting classes and join a big theatre troupe before you get an agent. That way you can get more experience.

No.... you don't need a manager... you need an agent. And you won't get an agent, if you don't have talent that he can help you sell. You've been acting in school plays? Good for you. What about community theater? What about acting lessons? Have you taken lessons? Are you acting in community theater?

If you are an hour away from Chicago, there have GOT to be plenty of acting schools, or acting classes in your area (Please note, I did NOT say John Robert Powers... I said Acting schools or acting classes)

Get some lessons... get some experience working in community theater... then go out and find an agent.

dont go straight to a agent...its not a good idea...i am sure you are very talented but i think the best thing to do would be to start off with acting classes (perfessional) and maybe some workshops (living in that big city you should have no problem) also start looking in the newspaper in the "jobs" section on sudays they have alot of jobs for you to start with... it is a common misconception that you have to have an agent to get into big theater and screen things...not true...all agents are are people with connections...try by yourself and get more experience first...when you finally do get an agent if they ask you to pay up front they are fake...real agents get 20-30 percent of what you make with the acting jobs you get...so dont be fooled

Get a Talent Manager, not an Agent. Most kids have Managers.
