Any Word experts out there?
I have an essay do soon and I am trying to get everything typed up. Unfortunately, I apparently hit some buttons and now whenever I try to indent it shows that weird looking H indent thing. When I try to put a space in it just puts a dot. So basically all of my documents are screwed up with all of these weird symbols. Does anyone know how to shut these off?!

PLEASE I need to know incredibly quick how to fix it. I'm panicking a tad.

Thanks!

So basically the words are all these but some sort of symbols randomly got put it. This probably seems like an obvious question or something, but I'm having some serious complications.

Look on your toolbar for a symbol that looks like a letter P. Try hitting that.

Fear not about these markings which you see. This is just Word showing you formatting marks. Look in the upper toolbar, and find an icon that looks like that H thing. Click on the icon, and those marks will go away.

If you don't see the H thing, click on the little down arrow at the end of the toolbar. Click on "Add or Remove Buttons". Next, click on "Standard". Within that list, there should be the little paragraph icon. The icon will be labeled as "Show All". Click on the icon. The icon should then show up on the toolbar. Find the icon, and click on it. All of the formatting symbols will go away.

you've turned on the symbols bit, which shows the formatting of everything you do... when you print out, the symbols won't be there though, just the text ... So I guess it's only an issue if you're planning on submitting your essay electronically instead of in hard copy.

If that's the case, then hopefully someone else will tell you how to turn it off, and be more helpful than I've been :-)

Good luck!

hi, these are just formatting marks that show you what type of "marks" you've placed in the "spaces" - whether its a tab, enter a next line, space, etc.

it won't show when you print it out.

now to get rid of it, since it can be annoying when you want to reread what you've type, you just need to go to TOOLS > OPTIONS> VIEW > FORMATTING MARKS and uncheck anything that is checked to hide these marks. Another short cut is you'll see a "pi" symbol in the Standard toolbar (where your icons for saving, printing, etc. is) You can click this to hide/unhide your formatting marks...

good luck! :)

That is just word setup to show formating marks. They will not be sent if you send the document to anyone else, it only affects your computer. To fix this on your computer you can go to Tools -> Options -> View Tab -> Un select all the Formating Marks That should do it!
